These are the questions brides ask me most, in order — from the first conversation before booking to the final gallery. They're not generic wedding-blog answers: they're the same ones I give every couple who writes to me, based on what actually happens at a real wedding, not how it looks on Pinterest.

Step 01

Before booking your photographer

How much does a wedding photographer cost in Guadalajara?

It depends on the package and coverage hours. I work with three collections — Esencia, Memoria and Autor — ranging from 8 hours of coverage to a full unlimited day, starting at $32,000 MXN. Prices are published on the packages page: what you see is what you pay, with no extra charges for editing or digital delivery at the end.

What should I ask a photographer before hiring them?

Ask to see full weddings, not just the highlight selection from each — that's where you can tell if they keep quality consistent all day. Ask about their experience at your specific venue type, and make sure their style is what you actually want to see in your photos. I wrote a full guide on this: how to choose a documentary photographer.

What does a wedding photography package usually include?

It should include the agreed coverage hours, a high-resolution digital gallery with no watermark, and private online delivery. In my packages editing isn't an extra charge — it's already included in the price, not an add-on billed later.

How far in advance should I book my photographer?

The sooner the better. Peak season dates in Guadalajara (October through May) tend to fill up 8 to 12 months in advance, especially weekends. If you already have your date and venue confirmed, don't wait more than a few weeks to book your photographer.

Do I need to sign a contract with my photographer?

Yes, always. A serious contract should clearly state coverage hours, date, location, what's delivered and when. I work with a 50% deposit to hold the date, with the remainder due before the event, so both sides know exactly what to expect.

Do I need a wedding planner or day-of coordinator?

It's not required, but if your wedding has a lot of guests or multiple locations in one day, a coordinator helps enormously — and it actually improves the photos. When someone else is watching the timeline and logistics, I can focus entirely on documenting instead of reminding people it's time for the next moment. For smaller weddings with a simple timeline, you often don't need one.

Step 02

Planning the day: weather, light and timing

What is the best time of day for wedding photos?

Golden hour — the hour before sunset — is the most requested, but it isn't the only good option. What really matters is planning your timeline around the light available at your specific venue. I put together a detailed guide on the ideal timeline for exactly this.

What if the sun is straight in my guests’ eyes during the ceremony?

It is the most underestimated problem at a garden ceremony, and in Jalisco it happens often: in mid-afternoon the sun comes head-on, your guests spend forty minutes squinting, and hard shadows cut across your face exactly when you are saying what you came to say. The decision is not made on the wedding day: it is made when you choose the hour. There are three ways out and all three work — push the ceremony half an hour later, turn the seating so the sun comes in from the side instead of head-on, or hand out shade to the guests. At one wedding in Zapopan the couple handed out paper parasols, and they ended up being the most beautiful thing of the day. Which one suits you depends on the place and the date, and it is one of the first things I go through with you once you have a venue.

What happens if it rains on my wedding day?

Nothing changes in how I work. The documentary approach doesn't depend on perfect conditions — some of my favorite photos from my entire career are from rainy weddings. The only thing that changes is the logistical plan for where we take shelter, not the quality or the approach.

Is an outdoor ceremony better than an indoor one?

Each has its own lighting challenge. Outdoors gives you more natural light but also more variables, like wind or harsh midday sun. An indoor venue gives more control but depends on the venue's own lighting. Neither is better on its own — what matters is that your photographer has real experience with the type of venue you chose.

How many hours of photography coverage do I need?

It depends on how complete you want the story to be. If you only want the ceremony and a few portraits, 6 to 8 hours is enough. If you want everything documented from getting ready to the dance floor, you need full-day coverage — that's the difference between a handful of moments and a complete story of the day.

What is the best time of year to get married in Guadalajara?

October through May, Guadalajara has clearer skies and less rain, giving more predictable light for outdoor photos. June through September is rainy season — not bad for photos at all (light right after rain is often spectacular), but it's worth having a logistical backup plan.

Light isn't forced — it's planned around. That's why your wedding timing matters as much as your venue.

Step 03

The wedding day

Do I need a second photographer at my wedding?

It depends on the size of your wedding and how many angles you want captured at once — for example, the groom's reaction and the bride's entrance at the same time. For large weddings I recommend it; for more intimate weddings, one experienced photographer is usually enough.

Does the photographer also film video?

My main work is documentary photography, though some collections include a short documentary video. If you're looking for a fuller video service, I can recommend trusted colleagues I've already worked with, so coordination between both teams runs smoothly on the day.

Does the photographer direct poses or document things naturally?

In my case, I document — I don't direct poses or construct moments. I wrote about what that means in practice: how I document a wedding without directing the scene. If you prefer a more directed style with specific poses, it's worth saying so from the first conversation.

How much does the photographer interact with guests during the wedding?

As little as needed to avoid interrupting the moment. My job is to capture what happens, not organize it — I only step in to request a specific family portrait or coordinate timing with the venue staff, never to direct guests.

Step 04

After the wedding

How long does it take to receive edited wedding photos?

Delivery time varies by wedding season; I confirm a clear estimate as soon as your date is booked. Galleries are delivered online, private, and in high quality, already edited and ready to download.

How many photos does a wedding photographer usually deliver?

There's no fixed number — it depends on coverage hours and how much happened that day. I'd rather deliver a curated, well-edited selection that tells the full story than inflate the count with repetitive or filler shots.

Who owns the rights to my wedding photos?

You get full personal usage rights to your photos: printing them, sharing them, making albums. As the photographer I retain copyright, which is standard in the industry, mainly so I can showcase the work in my portfolio, always with your permission.

Do wedding photos come edited or unedited (raw)?

Every photo you receive is already edited: color, light, and the visual treatment that defines my work. I don't deliver unedited files or every single shot from the day — I deliver the final selection, ready for you to enjoy.

This is what I want you to receive in the end: not a list of photos, but the whole day, just as you lived it.
